Quebec National Assembly pays tribute to King Mohammed
Morocco-Canada, Politics, 5/28/2005
Quebec National Assembly paid tribute to Morocco's King Mohammed VI for his work to modernise the Kingdom judiciary system and to promote women rights, notably through the adoption last year of the family code (Mudawana).
At a debate on Islamic courts on Thursday, representative Jocelyle Caron lauded, on behalf of all political trends in the Assembly, the king for modernising the judiciary system and developing women rights, a communique of the Moroccan foreign ministry said.
The press release said a tribute was paid to the king a year ago by the House of Commons of the federal parliament in a report on Canadian relations with Moslem countries.
The report said that the Moroccan King is seen "as one of the greatest reformers of the Arab world and could be the best hope for Islamic democracy development in the Moslem world."
