Mediation between Hamas and Fateh following a failed round
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 5/28/2005

The efforts of the Egyptian delegation failed in removing tension between the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) and the Palestine national liberation movement (Fatah). But the two rival movements expressed their hope to achieving greater progress through making more talks in the coming days.

News reports in Gaza said that the Egyptian delegation led by the assistant for the general intelligence Mustafa al-Buheiri met with Hamas members on late Friday after the delegation extended its mission in an attempt to convince the movement to agree to a repeat of the municipal elections in certain councils.

The leading figure in Hamas, Ismael Henya said that the movement and Fatah agreed to a schedule and many causes which will be in the interests of the Palestinians, noting that the movement will continue dialogue.

The secretary of the Fatah movement Ahmad Halas indicated the agreement to continue the dialogue means removing the state of tension within the Palestinian public, noting that national relations can be dealt with through channels of dialogue.

Both Hamas and Fatah movements stressed following a joint meeting on Friday in the presence of the Egyptian delegation, their cling to national unity and forbidding internal fighting and embarking on the language of dialogue to solve their disputes regarding the elections.
