King Fahd is in good health conditions, Riyadh denies announcing state of alert

The Saudi authorities announced in a statement which was quoted by the Saudi official news agency read "the guardian of the two custodians King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud was admitted the hospital of King Faisal specialized hospital in al-Riyadh on Friday afternoon to undergo medical tests," the statement gave no other more details.

Rumors on the King being exposed to a health crisis on Friday contributed to a large decrease on the Saudi stock market in Riyadh. The value of capitals invested in the Saudi stock market is estimated at more than $ 278 billion.

The Saudi royal court denied in recent days rumors on the death of the Saudi King. It said that the king underwent a medical check but the matter has not needed transmitting him to hospital.

The king, 80 years old, who assumed the throne n Saudi Arabia in 1982, suffers bad health conditions especially after he had a stroke in 1995. Frequent rumors have been repeated in recent years on the deterioration of his health conditions.

Because of his health condition, King Fahd has not in recent years run the country's affairs. This mission is carried out by crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz who is a brother for the Saudi king.

The Saudi news agency quoted a well informed source that the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz is in a good health condition after he was admitted on Friday to King Faisal specialized hospital in al-Riyadh to make medical tests.

The source which the agency did not identify said that the medical checks are the common one. Earlier, medical sources said that the king had a respiratory inflammation and had high fever.

However, a senior Saudi official denied that the kingdom had announced the state of alert and abrogated leaves for the security forces on Friday after the king was admitted to hospital.

Adel al-Jubeir the advisor for foreign policy for the Saudi King told reporters that no change was made on the internal affairs in Saudi Arabia and that everything is going as usual.
