15 Lebanese won elections by being unopposed

The number of persons who run unopposed in the Lebanese parliamentary elections which starts tomorrow, Sunday, increased to 15 parliamentarians after an announcement was made to that four new parliamentarians won in the south of Lebanon on that basis.

The director general for political affairs in the Lebanese ministry of the interior Atta Allah Ghassam said on Thursday evening that six candidates won by being unopposed in the second circle of the south. They are Qasdem Omar Hashem for the Sunni seat in the two areas of Matjyoun and Hasbaya and Bayyar Serhal and Samir Azzar for the two Maronite seats and Salim Khouri for the Catholic seat in Jezzine area.

Earlier Baheyya al-Hariri and Osama Saad won the two Sunni seats in Sidon in addition to the announcement made to that nine parliamentarians of al-Hariri bloc won by in Beirut last week so as number of unopposed winners increased to 15 out of the total number of parliamentarians of 128 members.

Observers expect that the bloc of Hizbullah and Amal which includes the 6 winners will win all seats of the two circles of the south of 23 seats and al-Hariri bloc to win the 19 seats of the three circles of Beirut.
