Tanjazz festival raises curtains in fiesta
Morocco, Local, 5/27/2005
The 6th Tanjazz festival raised curtains, in Tangier Tuesday, in a fiesta offered by "Louis Martinez quintet" and "Jeff Zima trio."
"Louis Martinez quintet" show produced a magic "avalanche" of percussions that successfully pair both African and Latin rhythms. They magnificently rendered traditional African as well as improvisational tunes and motifs, complete with gongs, wild cries, and authentic Swahili chants.
Created in 1957, the "Louis Martinez quintet" claims the Lecuona Cuban Boys as major influences as well as the legendary Chano Pozo.
The show went on with "Jeff Zima trio." In a perfect miscegenation between various rhythms and sounds, Jeff Zima captivated the jazz lovers who filled the Mendoubia wonderful site.
He rendered the Blues mingled with Jazz and Mambo with a devouring passion in a spiritual invitation to "la fiesta."
The 6th Tanjazz festival May 24-29, will host a long series of renowned national and international Jazz artists, notably Omar Sosa New Quintet, Ayoka, Yukata Shiina Trio, Stefka Miteva Quartet, Sequana Swing, Tawfik Ouldammar Quartet, Salah Ragab and Cairo Jazz Band and Wajdi Cherif Oriental Group.
