Sentencing one Kuwaiti who opened fire on Americans
Kuwait, Politics, 5/26/2005

Judicial sources said that the Kuwaiti court of cassation supported a 15- year imprisonment sentence issued against one Kuwaiti accused of opening fire at American soldiers and foreign workers.

The sources explained that the court supported the sentence issued by the preliminary court in 2004 against Ali Nasser al-Ajami because of the attacks he carried out in December 2003. Al-Ajamai was arrested shortly after these attacks.

The attorney said that al-Ajamai (31 year old) opened fire at two groups of the American army outside al-Kout city, and this resulted in slightly injuring four American soldiers. This man was also accused of opening fire at a bus carrying Arab and Asian workers near al-Shueibeh southern post, and the attack resulted in killing five persons.

Al-Ajami denied the accusation but he admitted having one pistol illegally. Al-Ajmai's lawyer said that his client received medical treatment for two years at a psychiatric center and is not considered responsible for what he is doing.

Kuwait had launched security campaigns against those who oppose the American military presence in the country and started on Tuesday trial of 37 persons accused of being involved in acts of violence carried out by al-Qaida organization in Kuwait in January. The attorney asked for death penalty for more than half of them.

Some 30,000 American soldiers are deployed in Kuwait from which was started the American invasion of Kuwait to topple the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 2003. Kuwait is still the main crossing passage for Iraq.
