Al-Thawra: Syria for increasing olive oil exports

Syria's Minister of Agriculture Adel Safar stressed that the cooperation between the International Council for Olive Oil and the Ministry came in the framework on improving the productivity and quality of the Syrian olive oils.
He appreciated the distinguished relation between Syria and the Council in many research and training fields, in addition to the cooperation in the marketing of the olive oil.
In a statement to al-Thawra daily published on Wednesday, Safar said that Syria produces huge quantities of olive oils, asserting that the Council works on marketing the Syrian production in the EU countries.
He added that the Syrian production of olive oils reached 200.000 tons, pointing out that the Council is due to organize at the end of this year a meeting on "marketing, policies of marketing olive oils and importance of the olive oils in Syria."
For his part, Executive Director of Council Habib al-Seed stressed the Council's support to marketing the Syrian olive oil to world markets, asserting Syria produces high quality of olive oils.
He added that the Syrian exports of raw olive oils last year was estimated at 75.000 tons, indicating that the Council is working to increase this quantity.
