King chairs working session on implementation of National Initiative for Human development
Morocco, Politics, 5/25/2005

Morocco's King Mohammed VI presided over on Tuesday a working session on the implementation of the National Initiative for Human Development unveiled by the monarch last Wednesday in a Royal speech.

The meeting examined questions on relation to the initiative and instruments of its applications.

The session was attended by Prime Minister Driss Jettou, and Interior Minister Al Mostafa Sahel.

The National Initiative for Human Development is designed to provide basic infrastructure to millions, from adequate housing and drinking water to health care and education.

Jettou said after the meeting "the government is currently examining an action plan that will be presented to the king," adding that the plan will gather all conditions for the success of the Initiative.

On his part, Sahel insisted that the involvement of political actors, unions, political parties and the civil society is a key factor for the success of the initiative.

He added that dialogue will be launched with these actors to define the implements that will be followed up and implemented in transparency.

Meantime, the United Nations hailed the National Initiative for Human Development announced last Wednesday by King Mohammed VI of Morocco, aiming to provide basic infrastructure to millions, from adequate housing and drinking water to health care and education.

"The United Nations agencies, funds and programs in Morocco reiterate full disposal to accompany the kingdom in the implementation of this initiative," reads a communique of the UN representation in Morocco. The Royal initiative, said the release, shares the UN's conviction that the particular interest granted to economic growth, the generation of wealth and financial prosperity should not omit the fact that development should notably focus on individuals.
