One year imprisonment for the Algerian liberty daily

An Algerian court issued a sentence provided for one year imprisonment against the former director of "Liberty" French language newspaper, Faridd Eleilat, under charges of undermining the President of the Republic.
The court convicted Eleilat in absentia because of one editorial and two articles and fined the paper caricaturist Ali Deilam of USD 686.
The court found non guilty the paper's columnist Mustafa Hammoush but fined the paper of USD 3500 over several articles and caricatures issued in August and September 2004, while the attorney had asked for one year imprisonment to the three journalists.
