Lahoud's son refrains from the elections
Lebanon, Politics, 5/24/2005
Emil Emil Lahoud, the son of the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, said on Monday that he gave up the idea of nominating himself to the elections due on May 29 in protest of carrying out the elections according to the year 2000 elections law.
Lahoud, the son, a parliamentarian for one of Mount Lebanon's circles, issued a statement to that effect in which he attributed his refrain from nominating himself to the non- credibility of the elections when held according to the elections law of 2000 "which mingles between greater and smaller circles," drawn under the rule of his father who supports Syria.
The withdrawal of Lahoud's son from the competition in the elections came two days of a similar decision taken by the former Lebanese prime minister Omar Karmai, while the opposition figure Michael Aoun announced his determination to nominate himself for one of the Mount's circles which is expected to witness great competition among the nominees.
