On the file of the kidnapped in Iraq
Iraq-Australia, Local, 5/24/2005

The three Romanian journalists who were released in Iraq after they were held for two months left Baghdad on Monday on board of a military plane returning back home.

The Romanian President Trian Basisko stressed that no ransom was paid for the release of the Romanian journalists who were kidnapped in Iraq by a group called itself the group of Maaz Bin Jabal and thanked the Arab and Muslim community in Romania who played a big role in the release of the kidnapped journalists.

Australia on Monday stressed persistence to release one Australian held in Iraq but warned against optimism following the release of the three Romanian journalists. The Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer said that there is no way to compare between the Romanian journalists and its citizen who is detained in Iraq.
