Yemeni president calls for national dialogue and commends the war against terrorism
Yemen, Politics, 5/23/2005

The Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has called for establishing national dialogue in order to open a new page in Yemen.

Saleh said on the 15th anniversary of the unity between the south and the north that the Yemeni political forces have to practice democracy and the freedom of expression with a great responsibility away from bad intentions. He called for commitment to the constitution and enforced laws.

He also considered that the opposition is the second face for the political regime, but he called for "practicing democracy within its own internal limits," commending what he called the tangible successes achieved by the security departments in preserving security, stability and fighting what he called terrorism.

The call of the Yemeni President for dialogue came one week after he had announced that Bader Eddine al-Houthi and his followers in "al-Shabab al-Mu'min organization" agreed to the pardon by the President in return for dropping their weapons.

However, this steps was suspected, as official sources threatened al-Haq party and the Union Of People's Forces accounted for the Zeidi trend of planning to topple the regime. A matter which was denied by the two parties, which also denied any connection to Saadah incidents in Yemen which resulted in killing 700 persons.
