Syria underlines importance of reviving silk road

Syria's Minister of Transport Makram Obeid underlined the necessity of reviving the Silk Road through a modern and rapid network of railway to restore Syria's pioneer role in the world trade.
In a forum held by Ministry of Transport titled "Silk Road," the minister talked about the historic features and the geographic importance of the Silk Road in linking the world together through trade convoys.
The Minister pointed out that this Road links between Europe and North America on one side and the Arab homeland with Asia to China through Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and India on the other.
He also added that it links the Arab homeland with Russia in the north as well as with Islamic republics.
