Jordan hosts world economic forum for the third running year
Regional-Jordan, Politics, 5/20/2005
The Jordanian King Abdullah II opens today works of the World Economic Forum in the Dead Sea area. The Forum will continue for three days and will be under the title "catch up the chance" with the participation of 1000 political, economic and cultural figures.
The forum is held for four running days outside its original headquarters in Davos, Switzerland, after it was held in 2002 in New York and its second and third meeting were held in Jordan in 2004 and 2003.
The forum is expected to address reform issues in the Arab states and will concentrate on two topics. The first is regional and relates to the Arab states while the second deals with the role of the economy and enhancing world stability.
Though the forum will tackle topics of economic nature, however, the rhythm of political issues in the region and regional and international matters will be overwhelming the deliberations of the forum. The forum also deals with issues relating to direct attraction of foreign investment, judicial reforms, Arab media, religion, politics, the Palestinian economic revival, supporting small and intermediate projects, telecommunications, technology, cultures, regional trade and macro projects.
The forum will also concentrate on the importance of seizing the opportunities and the change of the current atmosphere in the Middle East region in order to improve the living conditions and achieving security and stability, and comprehensive peace and enhancing the available economic opportunities.
However, views are directed towards an expected meeting between the Israeli delegation and certain Arab and Palestinian delegations in the course of the continued Israeli attempts to invest the event in normalization of relations with Arab states, as well as meetings of the Iraqi delegation with certain Arab delegations, as well as the meeting with the American delegation with certain delegations especially with that of Syria and Lebanon.
