Fahmi: First liquefied natural gas consignment exported toUS tomorrow
Egypt, Economics, 5/19/2005
The first consignment of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be exported tomorrow to US from Edko.
This marks the completion of the first stage of the Edko Natural Gas production project.
This was announced during Egypt's Minister of Petroleum, Sameh Fahmi's tour in which he was accompanied by Beheira Governor, Othman Moustafa Asal, and members of the Industrial Production and Energy Committee of the Shura Council.
The minister added that the second stage of the project will be completed soon and that LNG will be exported to France and Italy.
"The Edko project has been implemented over the very short time of six years following the discovery of natural gas in the Rashid area, "Fahmi said.
He noted that it represented a challenge on the international level but that Egypt has the potential to implement such strategic projects thanks to huge investments from the oil sector, British Gas, Malaysia Petronas and Gas De France which collectively pump $ 1.9 billion investments in Edko's two liquefaction units.
