Sudan asks Eritrea to stop support for opposition before normalization
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 5/19/2005

Sudan said that Eritrea has to stop supporting the Sudanese opposition before talking about normalization relations between the two countries.

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman said after his return back with the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir from the mini Tripoli summit on Darfur to that "Khartoum asked Asmara to stop ensuring haven for the Sudanese opposition as well as to stop supporting it."

Othman said that the meeting between President al-Bashir with President of Eitrea Asyas Afourki in Tripoli was an important step. But he stressed that normalization with Asmara will not be made before it fulfills its due obligations and ensures readiness to cooperate to remove obstacles hindering the return back of natural bilateral relations.

Othman Ismael said that Bashir explained in details during his meeting with meeting with Afourki, which was attended by the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi, the "obstacles which stand before the normalization of these relations and the inevitability of removing them," adding that Afourki stayed in Tripoli in order to discuss the Sudanese demands with the Libyan leader.
