Opposition certain of winning Lebanese elections; removing politics from the security departments
Lebanon, Politics, 5/19/2005

Concerning the issue of the Lebanese elections, Saad Eddine al-Hariri repeated his expectations that the Lebanese opposition will win the majority of seats in the parliament in the elections due on May 29th.

Al-Hariri expected that he will achieve in Beirut's circle a victory similar to that achieved by his father in 2000, noting that demands of the opposition were achieved concerning the Syrian withdrawal, the resignation of the security forces and the formation of an international investigation committee to the assassination operation.

He said that the challenge which faces the new parliament includes reforming the security departments and working to keep then apart from the political scene.

Saad Eddine al-Hariri abstained from saying if he will seek after the elections to call for the resignation of President Emil Lahoud or whether he will seek to be a prime minister.
