Aoun visits Jaajaa in prison
Lebanon, Politics, 5/19/2005

The former Lebanese army leader Michael Aoun visited the leader of the Lebanese Forces banned party, Samir Jaajaa, in his prison on Wednesday. This was the first meeting between the two men in 15 years.

Aoun stressed that the elections were not discussed in the meeting saying it is just to close the file of the past.

In a press conference following the meeting, Aoun expressed his solidarity with Jaajaa demanding his release and described his continued imprisonment as a repression.

Worthy mentioning that Jaajaa who was a leader for the Lebanese Forces militias is in a life imprisonment sentence since 1994 over the accusations of killing several political opponents including the former prime minister Rasheed Karami. Jaajaa is expected to be released very shortly at the request of the Lebanese parliament.
