Nuclear technology outcome result of internal Iranian will
Iran-Regional, Politics, 5/17/2005

Iran's Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel yesterday said that "access to nuclear technology and scientific progress in recent years is the practical outcome of an independent ruling system... and that the Islamic Revolution is the fruit of people's efforts to gain independence and avoid reliance on foreign powers.
," IRNA reported him saying.

"The enemies of Islam cannot tolerate a developed government founded upon religious models and independent from the world powers. They will try their utmost to undermine the country's independence," he said.

"Western heads of state are intent on exploiting the major resources of such countries by resorting to illusive pretexts such as establishment of freedom and democracy, while Iran is the only state which has made their relevant formulas invalid," he added.

Meantime, IRNA noted that "UN Secretary General Kofi Annan warned the Bush administration that the Security Council might face a deadlock if asked to punish Iran for its nuclear program, USA Today said on Monday. The United States and Britain have called for Iran to be brought before the Security Council if it carries out threats to resume efforts to make nuclear fuel," but Russia and China may block such action.

The spokesman for the Department of State was asked yesterday "one of your ideas is to take Iran to the Security Council where you presumably would have Britain and French support.Ê What are you doing about talking to China, which has said we don't agree with sanctions?" To which he replied "I'm not going to start counting votes in the Security Council for something that hasn't gone there."

Worth noting that the efforts, mainly by the US and Britain, to prevent Iran from advancing technologically, are analyzed by some as being aimed at keeping this oil rich and strategic country weak, boxed and under the influence of western powers.
