Morocco, Jordan boost relations in several fields
Morocco-Jordan, Politics, 5/17/2005

Morocco and Jordan signed Monday five agreements, four protocols, three executive programs and a memorandum of understanding touching on as diverse domains as economy, trade, energy, agriculture, culture, tourism and education.

The agreements concerning the fields of economy and trade, which were signed during the meetings of the joint commission co-chaired by the Jordanian Premier Adnan Badrane and his Moroccan peer, Driss Jettou, aim at establishing the norms and standards, conformity certificates, quality control, cancellation of double taxation, fighting tax evasion and administrative cooperation in the field of customs.

A cooperation agreement was also concluded between the Moroccan Center for the Promotion of Exports (CMPE) and the Jordanian authority in charge of the promotion of economic projects, in addition to an administrative and technical protocol in the field of free zones.

Two protocols to enhance cooperation in geology, mining industry, and setting up of energy policies were signed, as well as a MoU between the Moroccan authority of electricity (ONE) and the Jordanian company of electricity. The two parties also signed an agreement on animal health.

On the other hand, Morocco and Jordan signed executive programs to boost cooperation in tourism, culture, youth and sports and parliamentary activities.

The Jordanian Premier voiced his country's will to develop bilateral cooperation, notably in the economic and trade fields, which show a curve to the benefit of Morocco.

"We will work to consolidate our relations and consultation in all fields to bring about an Arab complementarity that goes beyond economy to reach politics and security," he said.

As to Driss Jettou, he expressed Morocco's hope to weave relations that encompass all fields of cooperation.

He said a legal framework will be suitable for a "constructive cooperation between the two countries," pointing out that the progress that the world witnesses today "compels us to create and invent."

The Jordanian official, who had arrived in Rabat on Sunday for a three-day working visit, left the Moroccan capital Tuesday morning.
