Historical reconciliation between Sudanese president, Eritrea's peer
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 5/17/2005

Prior to the launching of the summit in Tripoly, Libya, regarding peace in Darfur, a Quartet summit included the leaders of Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Eritrea was convened.

The Libyan official news agency said that the Libyan Leader Muammar al-Qathafi held a "historic" reconciliation between the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and his Eritrea's peer Asyas Afourki.

This is the first time in which the two presidents meet in such a summit since many years due to the tense relations between Asmara and Khartoum who are exchanging accusations of supporting the opposition movements for each other's regime.

In this regard, the official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency Suleiman Awad said that the meeting was a successful beginning for the seven- member summit.
