Moussa expresses Arab League solidarity with Palestinians on Nakba day
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 5/16/2005
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on Sunday voiced the League's total support of and solidarity with the Palestinian people as they commemorated the 57 anniversary of Nakba (Catastrophe) Day, marking the creation of the State of Israel.
In statements to the press on the occasion, Moussa said the Arab League supports the Palestinians' right to liberate their land, establish an independent state and negotiate through the peace process towards the attainment of these rights.
Arab League Assistant Secretary General Saeed Kamal yesterday exhorted the Middle East Quartet members to shoulder their responsibilities and push for just peace in the Middle East.
In a statement marking the 57th anniversary of Nakba Day, Kamal urged the UN, EU, US and Russia not to bow to Israel which wants to keep the present status quo.
The official accused Israel of trying to deceive the world into believing that its proposed withdrawal from the Gaza strip a painful concession for which Tel Aviv should be rewarded by turning a blind eye to its continued settlement expansion and construction of the separation wall.
Kamal warned that the Israeli policies would waste a golden chance to realize the long-aspired-for peace in the region.
