Rice demands Baghdad of a constitution in which all Iraqis are taking part
Iraq-USA, Politics, 5/16/2005
The US secretary of state Condaleezza Rice has urged the new Iraqi government to accelerate in writing the new constitution with the participation of representatives for all Iraqi people social strata.
In her first sudden visit to Iraqi after she had assumed the post of the secretary of state office, Rice expressed her admiration for the government of the government of the prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and described it as a comprehensive government. She simultaneously stressed the need of the expansion of the Arab Sunni participation in writing the constitution.
In a joint press conference with al-Jaafari, Rice stressed that the multinational forces in Iraq will remain there until the Iraqi people will be able to defend themselves, noting that her country will continue fighting what she described as terrorists who want to obstruct the progress and advancement of this country.
For his part, al-Jaafari stressed that his government will seek to accelerate the pace of training the Iraqi police and army forces and recruit new members to enable them introducing security and stability to the country and thereby accelerating the withdrawal of the foreign forces from it.
At the beginning of her sudden visit to Iraq on Sunday Rice held a press conference at Salah Eddine resort in Irbil in north Iraq with the Kurdish leader Masoud al-Barazani.
During the conference, Rice said that her country will seek to invest its friendship with the Kurdish people in order to found a democratic and federal Iraq.
For his part, al-Barazani considered Rice's visit to Iraq's Kurdistan as a proof on Washington support for Iraq and for the Kurdish people.
