Continued attacks kill, injure scores in Iraq

Three persons were killed including three members of the Iraqi police and other 24 injured on Sunday in two explosions carried out by two persons in Baqouba in the north east of Baghdad.

A source in the Iraqi police said that one booby trapped car targeted the procession of Deyali governor Raad Rashid before the procession had targeted another person who detonated himself and this resulted in killing five persons and injuring the others.

Gunmen also killed on Sunday morning the director of the ministry of industry installations col. Husam Muhammad Juma' and his driver at al-Ghazaleyah area to the west of Baghdad. Unidentified gunmen killed on Saturday the director general at the foreign ministry Jasem Muhammad Ghani in front of his house in the west of Baghdad.

In Kesra and Attash area to the east of Baghdad, trash workers found seven unidentified bodies. Earlier, the Iraqi ministry of the interior announced the killing of three Iraqi soldiers by the fire of three unidentified gunmen that attacked their procession in al-Amereyah quarters in the west of Baghdad on Saturday evening.

Three soldiers were also killed and other three injured when one Iraqi inspection barrier in al-Aswa was bombarded by mortars shelling. To the east of al-Lteifieh, three bodies for civilians were found.

In al-Touz to the north of the capital Baghdad, five Iraqi soldiers were killed and two injured in an attack by a booby trapped bike.

Meantime, the American army announced the killing of one of its soldiers and injuring other four in a booby trapped car explosion targeted one American convoy near Beiji city in the north of Baghdad.

In Musil, the American forces killed 8 Iraqis by opening fire at a car carrying them. The American army said the car was approaching them aggressively.

Meanwhile, Iraqi sources confirmed the killing of two Iraqi civilians and one policeman in a suicide attack in a booby trapped car targeted a joint procession for the Iraqi police and the American army in al-Sukkar quarters to the north of Musil.

In another development, the American army announced on Saturday evening the end of the large scale military operation in the al-Qaem border city to the west of Baghdad just one week after a comprehensive attack resulted in killing 125 persons, described by the statement of the American army as terrorists as well as the detention of other 30.

A statement by the American army simultaneously admitted the killing of nine American soldiers and injuring other 40 during one week of violent fighting in al- Qaem. N.
