Al-Siyassa: Mubarak: decision to stand elections after new laws

President Hosni Mubarak said on Friday that he would decide whether to run in the presidential elections or not after new laws on political and electoral rights would be issued.

In an interview with with Kuwaiti daily Al-Siyassa newspaper, Mubarak said that his decision on amending Article 76 of the Egyptian Constitution did not come under local or foreign pressures.

Mubarak stressed Egyptian's historic pivotal role in the Middle East and on the international arena.

On Egypt's relations with the US, the President said he has no concerns whatsoever in this respect, noting that the Americans did not ask for setting up any bases in Egypt.
