Al-Jaafari extends emergency law in Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 5/14/2005

Iraq's new Prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Friday issued a decision extending the state of emergency imposed in all parts of Iraq with the exception of Kurdistan district for 30 days. A statement by the government attributed the reasons behind the extension to the continued state of security emergency in the country.

The interim Iraqi government imposed for the first time the state of emergency on November 7 prior to the Falluja invasion operation.

This law allows special authorities to impose curfew and issuance of the warrant of arrests and carrying out inspection and breaking in operations and desolving unions and societies and impose restrictions on the movement and spying on telephone calls.
