Mubarak- al-Assad discuss the situation on the Arab arena

The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held talks on Thursday at Sharm al-Sheikh resort dealt with issues on the Arab arena.
The spokesman for the Egyptian presidency Suleiman Awad told journalists that the talks of the two presidents dealt with the Arab situation as a whole with concentration on the question of peace between the Arabs and Israel and means of supporting the Palestinian issue.
The spokesman also added that the talks dealt with the situation in Iraq, and developments on the Lebanese arena. The two presidents called for maintaining Lebanon's unity and eliminating sectarian tensions. The two presidents also discussed Syrian- Lebanese relations following the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon and the repeated American warning for Syria.
Awad noted that the talks dealt with the contacts Mubarak held recently in order to achieve stability in the region to prevent the emergence of new conflicts.
This was al-Assad's first visit to Egypt after the completion of the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon.
