The African force deplores kidnapping of 17 personnel in Darfur
Sudan, Politics, 5/13/2005

The African Union said that 17 of its personnel were kidnapped two days earlier at the hands of the rebels in Darfur before they were released, denouncing what it called the flagrant violation of the truce.

The statement by the African force read that the rebels kidnapped members of the force last Tuesday before they freed them the same day but they could return back to their base except on the second day to void traveling at night.

The statement refused the allegations of the rebels of the Sudan's liberation army to that the kidnapping came because there is no representative for its group in the patrol of the African force which did not notify it is there. The African force stressed that there is no need to notify any side that it exists in the area.
