Clashes between the Saudi security and gunmen in al-Qasim

A Saudi security source said that security men exchanged fire with one gunman to the north of the capital Riyadh before he was able to flee.

News reports quoted the source which was not disclosed that the clashes took place in Breida town in al-Qasim area when the security men were trying to stop the gunman who opened the fire. It was not clear if the man was the only wanted or had partners.

Other news reports quoted a Saudi security source as saying that the security stopped one man he described as an extremist after exchanging for in Bleida town in al- Qasim area. The Saudi authorities have not denied nor confirmed these news.

Five months ago al-Qasim area witnessed clashes between the Saudi security forces and those accounted for al-Qaida ended in killing 15 of them. These were the most violent since al-Qaida cells started its attacks at the Saudi government's targets and the western interests in May 2003.
