UN verification team ends mission on Syrian withdrawal

The Lebanese official news agency announced that the UN team in charge of verifying the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon ended its mission on Monday and its chief had visited the commander of the Lebanese army Michael Suleiman to thank him over his cooperation which allowed the completion of the mission.

The team which was chaired by the Senegal's Maj. Al-Haji Muhammad Kanji has visited previous Syrian intelligence and military positions in the Bekaa and the north. He also visited to positions for the People's Front For the Liberation of Palestine--General Command in the Bekaa and al-Naema to the south of Beirut.

The team will be submitting a report on its mission to the UN secretary general Kofi Annan who noted on April 26 he had received Syrian- Lebanese guarantees regarding the withdrawal and that he is waiting for the results of the UN team work.
