French anti-racists gather in memory of Moroccan victim
Morocco-France, Local, 5/11/2005
Hundreds of French anti-racism militants gathered, in Paris Sunday, in memory of Brahim Bouaram, a Moroccan expatriate who was assassinated, ten years ago, by skinheads from right wing party Front National (FN).
Bouaram, 29, was thrown into the Seine River on May 1, 1995 by a group of racists who were taking part in a rally.
"Brahim was assassinated, because he is Moroccan, by a group of thugs and by an ideology," vented the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delano‘, insisting "it is a must to remain mobilized against racism and anti-Semitism."
For the chairman of the French League of Human Rights (LDH), Michel Tubiana, the death of Bouaram is "the emblem of hatred against the other."
The Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples (MRAP) said it is the "duty of all anti-racists to recall that the FN, similar to the National Republican Movement (MNR), are not parties like the others because they are founded on an ideology of hatred, racism, intolerance and are, as such, placed outside the (French) Republic."
The event, which was also attended by the French Jewish Union for Peace, was initiated by MRAP, LDH, the Association of Meghrebin Workers (ATMF) and SOS Racism.
