Aoun, Hizbullah and Saad al-Hariri
Lebanon, Politics, 5/11/2005
Former Lebanese army leader Michael Aoun met on Monday with a Hizbullah delegation led by parliamentarian Ali Ammar.
Following the meeting, Ammar loomed the possibility of initiating an alliance between the two sides, noting that Aoun wants to enter politics from the "front door" and "we do agree on that with him and call on all the Lebanese forces to pursue the same way."
Ammar said that a nearby meeting will be held between Aoun and the secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party. But he abstained from specifying a date.
These statements came, despite the confirmation made by certain political sources that the bloc of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and that of his alley Walid Junblal split from the opposition and finalized a secret agreement with the Hizbullah party and the Amal movement led by the speaker of the Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri who is close to Syria.
For his part, the son of the late Lebanese Rafiq al-Hariri, Saad al-Hariri called on his supporters to vote for all members of al-Hariri 19 candidates list. This was expressed by al-Hariri in a speech he delivered before thousands of his supporters amid confirmations that he had postponed announcement of candidates in his election list for two other days.
