On US pressures and reform in the Arab states
Regional-USA, Politics, 5/11/2005
US professor in modern Arab studies said on Tuesday reforms in the Arab states should emerge from inside these states far away from any pressure or nay foreign dictate.
"All Arab countries are willing for reforms but the US administration statements and calls in this respect hinder them as long as Arabs have no confidence in the US administration and its policies," Michel Hadson of Arab Modern Studies Center at George Town University said in a lecture.
He noted in an open dialogue with journalists due to a call from the Syrian Society for public relations, that this situation on the side of the US administration has created a kind of contradiction between belief in a message and not being satisfied with the messenger.
Hadson blamed the US "imbalanced" policy against the Arab-Israeli conflict to be in favor of Israel noting that the US ought to change its "arrogant policies" over the region to make the world stop hating it.
"There is a clear division among the US administration over current policies against the Arab region. The absence of clear image in the US position has reached to the level of contradiction," the US professor said.
He hoped the US policy would finally incline to solve conflict between Palestinians and Israelis showing pessimism of this mainly due to Washington's giving billions of dollars to Israel against very small sums of money for Palestinians that parts of go to Israel too.
