Lebanon, Politics, 5/10/2005

Former leader of the Lebanese army Michael Aoun said he is still waiting the decision of other sides of the Lebanese opposition on allying with him in the legislative elections due by the end of May.

He said upon receiving several politicians who congratulated him over coming back from his exile in France which lasted for 15 years that his allies are the scores of thousands who welcomed his return back on Sunday.

Aoun criticized Lebanese parliamentarians who stand in support of Syria. He said "they are outdated now and they had come under occupation and they can not try any one, rather many of them should be tried." Among the figures which Aoun had received in his residence in al-Rabeya area to the north east of Beirut was Streida Jaajaa, the wife of his opponent Samir Jaajaa who is in jail.

Aoun also received patriarch Roland Abou Jodeh delegated by the Maronite patriarch Butrous Sfeir. He also received a congratulation telephone call from the speaker of the Lebanese speaker of parliament Nabih Berri.
