The founder of the International Rehabilitation Center for Torture Victims (IRCT) Inge Genefke, praised the Moroccan experience in human rights promotion and torture victims rehabilitation as "unique" in the Arab states.
These efforts will undoubtedly consolidate the kingdom'gains in human rights promotion, the ICRT ambassador told MAP as she was taking part in a conference on "the rehabilitation of torture victims" this May 6-7 in Rabat.

She also recalled that in recognition for Morocco's historic headways and its ratification of the UN anti-torture convention, the North African country was chosen as a venue in December 2004 for a seminar on the "Istanbul protocol," a UN covenant that draws the international guidelines for torture investigation and documentation.
Of the conference co-sponsored by the ICRT and the Rabat-based center for human rights document, information and training, Prof. Said El Ouahlia, a forensic and IRCT consultant, said 75 magistrates, forensics and other health professionals have drawn up a strategy for the treatment and rehabilitation of torture victims. He explained that rehabilitation is a large concept that include evaluation of sequels, psychological and psychiatric support and victims integration in active and social life.
He added that the conference means to identify training needs for doctors and assess international experiences in the creation of specialized institutions
