Sudan: the first meeting for the joint military committee

In a statement, the UN mission in Sudan announced that the joint Sudanese military committee in charge of supervising cease fire in southern Sudan held a meeting on Saturday under the auspices of the UN.
The meeting was held at the Sudanese city of Jouba to the south of al-Khartoum under the chairmanship of the commander of the UN mission Gen. Fadel Alhi Akbar ( Bangladesh). The committee is composed of representatives for the regular Sudanese army and members of the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( former southern rebels). The committee is considered a political commission of the peace agreement which was signed between the north and south of Sudan on January 9th in Nairobi.
