Chalabi's arrest issue resurfaces in Jordan
Iraq-Jordan, Politics, 5/9/2005
On the sideline of the visit of the Jordanian President Jalal al-Talibani to Jordan, the file of the leader of the Iraqi National Congress, Ahmad Chalabi, who occupies the post of the deputy premier in the government of al-Jaafari has surfaced.
In this regard, the Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zeibari expressed his hope that differences will be settled between Iraq and Jordan on this file in a matter satisfactory for the two sides.
Zeibari told journalists after his meeting with the acting foreign minister Alya' Bouran that Chalabi is at the meantime one of the Iraqi government leadership and is elected and thereby this matter should be settled.
A Jordanian military court stated that Chalabi is guilty over stealing Petra Bank assets in 1992.
For his part, Chalabi filed a case in the USA in which he accused the Jordanian government of trying to distort his reputations and of destroying the work of the Petra Bank which he had founded during the 1980s.
