On possibility to re-introduce emergency law to Iraq

Concerning steps that might be taken by his government to withstand armed operations which have been in an unprecedented way escalated in Iraq, the Iraqi prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said that the government will take all necessary measures to fight this phenomenon and if it will be necessary will declare or extend the emergency laws.

Al-Jaafari's threats came at a time when attacks continued in Iraq and the last of which resulted in killing the director general of implementing projects at the Iraqi ministry of transport and communications Zawba' Yassin al-Maeini and his driver in al-Doura area to the south of Baghdad at the hands of gunmen while they were riding a small car and opened fire at them from light weapons.

In another development, the American army announced it killed 6 gunmen and detained other 54 in a series of breaking in operations in al-Qaem city near the Syrian- Iraqi borders.

A statement by the army said that its forces "destroyed booby trapped car ready for blowing up, as well as two buildings containing huge amounts of explosives, missiles and a factory for explosives." In Biji, two Iraqi soldiers were killed and four civilians were injured including one child in a booby trapped car explosions when one American- Iraqi convoy was running near this town situated to the north of Baghdad.

In another development, news reports said that the civilian riot for the government's establishments employees and students continued for the second running day in al-Ramadi to the west of Baghdad. The Muslim Scholars Council in the city and the mosques preachers and Imams called for general strike as an expression to the rejection of besieging the city, and in protest of the campaign of arrest and acts of detention they said the American forces are carrying out.
