Mubarak, Saudi CP to discuss formation of a joint security committee
Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 5/7/2005

As part of the Egyptian-Saudi coordination, President Hosni Mubarak held yesterday a session of talks with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdel Aziz, who arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh on Friday.

The talks, which continued on a dinner banquet hosted by President Mubarak in honor of the Saudi Crown Prince and his accompanying delegation, discussed the latest developments on the Arab arena, mainly the Middle East peace process and the situation in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia have played an important role in convincing the parties concerned to implement the international resolutions on Syria and Lebanon.

Saudi sources said that the delegation accompanying the Saudi Crown Prince includes a high level security delegation.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the formation of a security committee comprising experts in the different security aspects for exchanging information on the security files of elements wanted in both states.

Sources told Al-Ahram that this committee would follow up support and financing offered by some quarters for terrorist elements for destabilizing both Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the light of the latest information on the involvement of some figures on financing the latest terrorist incidents in Egypt.

The agenda of the Egyptian-Saudi summit also comprises the position in Darfur, bilateral relations, growth of investments and trade exchange.

Saudi media reported that Prince Abdullah is usually keen to meet and consult with President Mubarak, referring to their meeting following Prince Abdullah visit to the United States in 2002.

Media stressed the importance of the Egyptian-Saudi role, describing it as the first line for defending the Arab interests and crystallizing a unified stance towards the problems facing the joint Arab action.

Prince Abdullah will later visit Amman and Damascus as part of his tour which has already taken him to France, the US, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt.
