Robbery and lynching by 'Polisario' separatists
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/7/2005
Three members of the separatist movement "Polisario," based in the Algerian southern region of Tindouf, killed a merchant in the so-called wilaya of Smara, 30 km from the Tindouf camps (southeast Algeria), reliable sources revealed.
The killers, who had robbed thousands of dollars from an international humanitarian organization, had concealed the stolen money with a merchant who refused to give them the money back.
"Polisario" forces pulled in the culprits on the charge of homicide only, reported the source, pointing out that the separatists tend usually to hush up crimes related to the embezzlement of humanitarian organizations' monies, for fear that financial aids Ñdestined initially to the Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf, and extorted by "Polisario" membersÑ be shut off.
The "Polisario" is an Algerian-backed movement that has been claiming, since 1976, the separation of the southern regions of Morocco, known as the Sahara, from the rest of the Kingdom.
Morocco had retrieved the former Spanish colony in 1975, under the Madrid Accords concluded between Rabat, Madrid and Nouakchott.
