Author of death threat against Moroccan employee arrested
Morocco-Belgium, Local, 5/5/2005
The police arrested on Tuesday the author of letters threatening of death a Moroccan employee in Belgium for wearing the scarf at workplace.
According to the Belgian media, the suspect, who is the husband of a colleague of Naima Amzil, employed at a fish packaging unit in the Belgian western city of Courtrai, was identified by DNA tests.
The man reportedly wanted to take revenge against his wife because of a conflict the two women had. His fingerprints were found in one of the two letters he sent to the company boss including one containing bullets.
The boss was required to fire Amzil in letters signed by a Flemish racist movement "Nieuw Vrij Vlaanderen," causing an uproar in the Belgian society.
King Albert II of Belgium received last January the employer and employee, in a gesture of solidarity and encouragement with the two who resisted threats. The royal couple also visited the small plant last April.
