Nazif discuses establishing Sino-Egyptian University in Egypt
Egypt-China, Education, 5/4/2005
Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif conferred yesterday with Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Wu Sike on a project for establishing a Sino- Egyptian university in Egypt teaching the highest technologies in the field of industry.
Cabinet Spokesman Magdi Radi said a group of Egyptians and Chinese had applied to the Egyptian Higher Education Ministry for setting up a joint university including a number of faculties that would be linked to factories and production areas in the industrial zones in Cairo and some governorates.
Nazif asserted that Egypt welcomed the idea, especially that the government was giving special attention to higher education, Radi said.
The spokesman also said Nazif reviewed with ambassador Wu prospects of the proposed university giving courses in industrial technologies two stages; first preparing technicians over two years in study as well as graduating the highest technical cadres over four years.
Nazif, on his part, said such a university would be a successful example of preparing well-trained technical cadres and would encourage companies in both countries to contribute towards financing it.
The spokesman added that the two sides agreed that the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), northwest of the Gulf of Suez, would be the starting point for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and a base for exporting all Chinese products to neighbouring countries in light of Egypt's distinguished position in Africa and the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two sides shared identical viewpoint's regarding the issue of structural reform of the UN and the expansion of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
