Bush phones Jaafari; American soldier killed in Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 4/30/2005

The American army said on Friday that one of its soldiers was killed and other four injured in a bomb explosion launched by gunmen to the north of Iraq.

The American army explained in a statement that the attack took place on Thursday in al-Hweijah, 200 Km to the north of Baghdad. The number of the American soldiers killed in fighting in Iraq since the American invasion in March 2003 increased to 1572, according to news reports.

At the political level, the American president George W. Bush refused to set a schedule for the withdrawal of his forces from Iraq. He said after telephoning the Iraqi Prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to congratulate him on winning the confidence of the Iraqi parliament "I know there is an attempt to convince me to put a schedule for withdrawal, but I do not think it is wise to draw a schedule." In a statement issued by the White House, Bush welcomed the new government. Each of the European union, the UN and Turkey welcomed this government, showing readiness to cooperate with it.
