Mauritania justifies detaining Islamists over their alliance with al-Qaida

The government of Mauritania justified a new campaign of arrests in the lines of Islamists opposition members for maintaining alliance with "al-Salafeyah group for the call and fighting" in Algeria, which is close to al-Qaida organization.

In a statement, the spokesman for the police Yahfazo Weld Ammar said that the Islamists leaders who were detained in the campaign launched by the authorities two days ago "sent some 20 persons to the training camps of al-Salafeyah group for the call and fighting" and the first group returned back to the country.

He added that "these members were arrested, and the other members of the groups are still in the training camp of al-Salafeyah group for call and fighting."
