Syria: Lebanon remains alive in our heart
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 4/27/2005

Syria's Chief of Staff underlined on Tuesday that Lebanon "will remain alive in the consciousness and feelings of Syria of Arabism sons."

In a word at a farewell ceremony in Bekaa valley in Lebanon for the Syrian forces leaving Lebanon, Major General Ali Habib said "Syria's power in Lebanon is not taken from its military presence there, but rather due to the cultural, historical and geographical ties and ties of kinship that are libel to keep Syria in the conscience of Lebanon's sons and feelings as Lebanon will remain alive in the heart and conscience of Syria of Arabism sons."

He said Syria had no ambitions in Lebanon but to keep security and stability, and "no one can deny that liberation of the biggest part of the southern Lebanon from the claws of the brutal Israeli occupation was due to Syria's support to the Lebanese national resistance" and not because of the "foreign backing pretending to cry over Lebanon's liberation and sovereignty." He noted to the "hostile media trumpets and its role to deform the honorable national role the Syrian forces have played in Lebanon."

"Lebanon's pure sky and land as well as his stones and ceder will remind with glory of the scarifies of Syrian troops to defend Lebanon's land and people," he said.

Habib pointed out that Syria's forces entrance into Lebanon under the Lebanese government demand in 1976 and in response to the Lebanese people's calls and the Arab League.

He spoke about the current situation in the Arab region clarifying that Syria has always been with the international resolutions and that "Syria is working publically and secretly to keep the prestige of the international organization and to fully implement its decisions far from the selectivity that undermines the international organization credibility." He noted that "Syria who has completed its forces full withdrawal today from Lebanon, is meeting its commitments towards UN resolution 1559 while Israel and its rulers are abstaining from implementing the UN decisions and are avoiding the international legitimacy resolutions." Major General Habib said this would not turn Syria away from its adherence to its national principals and its sincerity to its principals and convictions that are in harmony with the principals and decisions of the international law.

"Syria will keep providing all what she can to establish the just and comprehensive peace in the region," he said.

He concluded his word thanking all those who contributed in this "good gesture" of saying good bye to Syrian forces leaving from Lebanon hoping the Lebanese army more strength and might, the Lebanese people fulfillment of aspirations as well as making more progress and prosperity while keeping his sovereignty, national unity and independence.
