Al-Ahram: Putin: No peace in Mideast without Syria and Lebanon
Regional-Russia, Politics, 4/26/2005

President Vladimir Putin of Russia said just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East can't be achieved without solving the region's issues and moving on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.

In a statement published Monday by Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram, Putin underlined that the international community shouldn't ignore the Syrian and the Lebanese tracks, asserting that without these two states a just peace is impossible in the region.

Putin also reiterated his country's firm stance towards the Palestinian question, saying "Russia will continue its efforts to solve the Palestinian issue through participating in international organizations, particularly the International Quartet Committee."

Regarding Iraq, Putin said Moscow will continue cooperation with Iraq, pointing out to Russian-Iraqi old relations and Russia's care for developing those relations in the future.
