US congressional draft resolution on Jerusalem as Israel's capital denigrates peace efforts
Palestine-USA, Politics, 4/26/2005

President of Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, Abdel Raouf al-Raydi, warned over the danger of the U.S. draft resolution submitted to the U.S. Congress which calls for recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

In a statement to the Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) Monday, Raydi said this resolution violates international law and the UN Security Council resolutions, particularly 269 and 242 which prohibit seizure of lands by force.

"Parties which market this resolution aim at damaging the situation in the Middle East at this particular time which seems to entail solution for the Palestinian issue," he added.

He also called on the Congress not to adopt such stances that hurt the U.S. reputation in the region and damage its relations with the Arab states.
