Lebanon, Politics, 4/26/2005
The Lebanese general security director Lt. gen. Jamil al-Sayyed presented his resignation in responce, in part, to the demands of the opposition to the resignation of all security leaders which they are held responsible for the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, as well as the vow made by the designated prime minister Najib Miqati to remove them.
Jamil al-Sayyed said in his resignation statement "Then I am honored to submit for terminating my service and accept the resignation according to enforced laws and regulations and the resignation to the cabinet to take necessary measures to this effect."
The Lebanese minister of the interior had two days earlier blamed al-Sayyed administratively, but the reason behind the blame was not explained. However, Lebanese media reports said that the reason is his violation of the administrative hierarchy order by overstepping the authority of his superior, the minister.
Jamil al-Sayyed had extended his address, in which he put himself at the disposal of the government of the designated prime minister Jamil Miqati, at a time he should have submit it first to the interior minister, his direct boss.
