Pardon of Samir Jaajaa imminent, wife says
Lebanon, Politics, 4/25/2005

Lebanese parliament member Ne'mat Allah Abu Nasser said on Sunday that a parliamentary committee approved initially a proposal to pardon the leader of the dissolved Lebanese forces militias Samir Jaajaa and the persons detained as a result of al-Denyah and Majdal Anjar incidents in the Lebanon.

On April 12, six Lebanese parliamentarians proposed to amend the general pardon law issued following the civil war with the aim of releasing Geagea in the context of the efforts to achieve national unity.

Statements by parliamentarian Abi Nasser coincided with celebration of the 11th anniversary of Jaajaa's detention who was sentenced to life imprisonment. His wife Strida announced before a group of his supporters gathered on this occasion that her husband will leave his detention shortly.

She explained that the "most sincere translation of launching reconciliation in Lebanon is releasing Samir Jaajaa and the return back of Maj. Gen Michael Aoun," noting that "national unity is basic precondition for independence and sovereignty and national reconciliation is the base for building Lebanon and the state of justice and the law."

Strida Jaajaa's statements came in conclusion of the mass held at the headquarters of the Maronite patriarchy in Bkerky attended by hundreds of persons including politicians and parliamentarians and representatives of the two blocs of the Druz leader Walid Junblat and for the former prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri's bloc.
