Lebanese committee observes sit in to release prisoners in the Israeli jails
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 4/23/2005
Secretary General of the Lebanese Follow Up Committee for Supporting Prisoners in Israeli jails, Mohammad Safa, on Friday called on the EU and the U.N. and other human and international organizations to work hard to release prisoners at Israeli jails.
In a sit-in staged by the Committee in front of the EU Embassy on the occasion of the Prisoner's Day, Safa pointed out that there are more than 8,000 Arab and Palestinian prisoners at Israeli prisons, adding that Lebanese prisoner Samir Qintar has been in jail for more than 27 years.
Protestors raised banners that call on the UN to send international observers to Israeli jails to acknowledge the disastrous situation of the prisoners there.
In Baalbek, Palestinian Fatah Movement organized a mass rally on this occasion where participants underlined the necessity for supporting the Palestinian people and boosting their resistance as well as rejecting foreign intervention in Arab internal affairs.
They also denounced Israeli inhuman practices against Arab and Palestinian prisoners at Israeli jails.
